The Midi Police District's Weapons Service visits safe.brussels

24.10.2024

The Midi Police District's Weapons Service was recently welcomed to our building by the High official of the Brussels Conurbation. The aim of the visit was to highlight the quality of the collaboration between our services and to explore new avenues of cooperation.

The essential missions of the Weapons Service

safe.brussels' Weapons Service plays a central role in the application of firearms legislation for private individuals living in the Brussels-Capital Region. Under the authority of the High official, this service handles the various authorisation requests, in collaboration with the police and judicial authorities.

These missions include:

  • Applications for a licence to possess a firearm;
  • Applications for a permit to carry a firearm;
  • Applications for a European Firearms Pass;
  • Applications for a firearm collector's licence, if the collection is located in Brussels;
  • Applications for a gunsmith's licence, for gunsmithing activities in the region;
  • Applications for a shooting range licence, for those located in the Brussels-Capital Region.

A practical example of collaboration

When we receive a request for authorisation to possess a weapon, we turn to the police district, such as the Midi District, to carry out the necessary investigations. These investigations allow us to determine whether the applicant meets all the legal and safety requirements for authorisation.

Sharing information is also crucial when a person is known to be involved in public order incidents. This close cooperation enables efficient management to guarantee public safety.
