Basic officer training is the vocational training (lasting six months) that the aspiring officer (the student who begins training) undergoes and must pass in order to get their first job as a police officer.

The teachers and instructors who run the courses are experts in their fields, and you'll be working with them on the ground. They'll show you the various aspects of police work.

Course programme:

  • Module 1: The place and role of the aspiring officer in a police academy (min. 10 hours);
  • Module 2: The place, function and role of the police in our society (min. 34 hours);
  • Module 3: The place, function and role of managers within the integrated police force (min. 22 hours);
  • Module 4: Community policing (min. 28 hours);
  • Adaptation placement to familiarise participants with the day-to-day, practical operation of the various functions of the local police force (min. 24 hours);
  • Module 5: Basic technical skills (min. 22 hours);
  • Module 6: Introduction to primary police processes (min. 92 hours);
  • Module 7: Approach to common phenomena (min. 100 hours);
  • Module 8: Current phenomena (min. 8 hours);
  • Module 9: Physical and mental training (min. 42 hours);
  • Module 10: Violence management (min. 128 hours);
  • Module 11: First and second languages (min. 50 hours);
  • Integrated exercises: Responding in integrated exercises, in the most common typical situations (min. 12 hours);
  • Training placement in operational situations (min. 80 hours).

This amounts to a total of a minimum of 578 hours of classes and 104 hours of placements.
